Katrina Kaif is accident prone

Katrina Kaif is accident prone

Katrina Kaif is very accident prone. A month ago, Ranbir Kapoor missed his cue and slapped her so hard on the sets of “Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani” that her face got swollen badly and shooting had to be cancelled. Last week, she got her leg rather badly injured while shooting for “De Dhana Dhan”.
According to cast members at Film City here, Katrina was doing an underwater sequence with Akshay Kumar when her foot got tangled under water.
“The more she tried to extricate herself the more her leg got tangled. She tried to scream for help, but because of the noise on the sets including the stunt co-ordinators who were shouting instructions to the entire cast, no one heard Katrina’s screams of pain,” a source told IANS.
Finally, Akshay bailed her out.
“Akshay saw that Katrina was in trouble. He quickly swam to her and got her out of the tangle,” said the source.
Katrina’s leg was badly hurt. “It could’ve been worse,” said the source, “but tetanus shots and sedatives have eased her pain.”
When contacted, Katrina tried to downplay the incident saying: “It was nothing. I hurt my leg. There was a cut that hasn’t healed as yet. So I’m in pain.”

Sonam Kapoor signs her first endorsement deal with L’Oreal

Sonam Kapoor’s debut film Saawariya may have sunk without a trace at the B.O. Yet both the critics and audience were unanimous in their words of praise for the tall and pretty actress. Since then, Sonam has been busy shooting for her second film- Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Delhi 6 where she is paired opposite Abhishek Bachchan.
This year, Sonam may not have had a single release, yet she has managed to stay in the limelight for one reason or the other. The latest is that Sonam has bagged her first official endorsement deal. According to sources, it is learnt that the young actress will be the brand ambassador for international cosmetic brand L’Oreal and will launch its new range of products targeted at the young generation.
By now its common knowledge that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been the face of L’Oreal. So does that mean its curtains for Ash from the L’Oreal family? Well, not quite, as Ash will continue her association with the brand as the original old face of L’Oreal while Sonam would be the face of L’Oreal for the younger generation.
Sonam has already shot for her first L’Oreal ad which will be launched sometime in January next year (2009).

Like Aamir, I’m also quite a perfectionist: Asin

Like Aamir, I’m also quite a perfectionist: Asin

Aamir Khan’s perfectionist attitude often sends jitters down his co-stars’ spines. But southern beauty Asin, who is set to make her Bollywood debut with Aamir in “Ghajini”, says she had no issues matching up to the superstar as she too always settles for nothing but the best.
“People often call Aamir a perfectionist and a tough taskmaster, but I didn’t have any problem matching up to him because I’m also quite a workaholic. We gelled quite well as far as the demand of perfection was concerned. Even I like things to be the best,” Asin told IANS over telephone from Mumbai.
Just like any other girl her age, 23-year-old Asin has been a huge Aamir fan.
“I have always admired Aamir and have enjoyed his movies ‘Lagaan’ and ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and also loved ‘Taare Zameen Par’. I have danced a lot on ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ songs with my friends,” she said.
After working with the superstar, she says he is unlike what the media and industry project him to be.
“Shooting with Aamir was great fun. He isn’t as serious as he is projected to be. He is highly dedicated to his work but is very cool and easy to work with. He’s a simple person, very genuine and frank about his opinions despite having such a good stature in Bollywood,” said Asin.
The actress, who was brought up in Kerala and debuted in Sathyan Anthikad’s Malayalam film “Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka” in 2001, also starred in the Tamil version of “Ghajini” released in 2005. It was in this film that she received her second South Filmfare Award for best actress.
Asin has been kept away from the promotions of the Hindi remake thanks to Aamir’s knack for keeping his cast away from the media prior to the release. But she is nonchalant.
“I have not felt overshadowed by Aamir’s publicity at all. Actually, I’m not used to all this really because we don’t have it in the south film industry. The marketing team for ‘Ghajini’ has its strategy to promote the film in the right manner. If Aamir is promoting the film in the north, I am doing it in the south,” she said.
Besides, Asin believes publicity is something that would only bring people to the theatres. Liking or not liking the film is in the viewers’ hands, she said.
According to her, though audiences down south have already seen and appreciated the original “Ghajini”, they would surely revisit theatres for Aamir’s charm.
“Aamir has got a huge fan following and he is the highlight of the film. In fact, since a lot of people down south have seen the Tamil version of the film, they will now probably come to theatres just to watch Aamir.
“I have no issues about that as ‘Ghajini’ is the story of Sanjay Singhania, played by Aamir. So the fact that his presence is being highlighted is completely justified,” said Asin.
As of now, the actress is “excited but anxious” of how her “new audience” will react to her performance when “Ghajini” hits theatres worldwide.
Her next Bollywood release after “Ghajini” would be Vipul Shah’s “London Dreams” in which she stars alongside Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan. She is also a part of Walt Disney’s multi-lingual project “19 Steps” and would be sharing screen space with south Indian superstar Kamal Haasan and Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano.

I replaced Ash, tomorrow someone shall replace me too: Katrina Kaif

I replaced Ash, tomorrow someone shall replace me too: Katrina Kaif

Brand ambassador for the Nakshatra brand, Katrina Kaif arrived at the launch of the new TV commercial which is quiet an achievement according to Bollywood standards.
The TV Commercial that was unveiled to the media has Katrina performing a cosmic ballet of sorts and controlling the cosmos.
Speaking about the ad shoot, Kat said, It was a little difficult for me to shoot this ad. I was in the US for three months shooting for the Yash Raj film with John and Neil. After I arrived back in Mumbai, I headed straight for Nakshatra’s shoot.
I basically had to do these weird hand moments and was surrounded by a blue screen all around for the special effects to be incorporated. My friend Ahmed Khan (choreographer) was a great help though. But when I saw the final result I felt it is simply awesome.
Aishwarya Rai was earlier the brand ambassador for Nakshatra. You replaced her?
Well I guess it’s the people who own any brand know better as in who suits for a particular product and who does not.
I have been seeing the Nakshatra ads featuring Aish since the time they came on air. I have loved them all. I now feel lucky to be a part of them. But I guess it’s a part of the industry that one replaces the other. Tomorrow someone else shall replace me too.
Mehul Chowksi, Chairman and MD Geetanjali gems pitched in between, “We felt she is the perfect representation of the young, trendy and fashionable woman that Nakshatra targets.”
We asked Mr. Chowksi how replacing Aish with Katrina how had it affected the brand?
“Our sales have improved considerably since we introduced Katrina as the new brand ambassador.” he revealed.
When asked Kat what was her criteria for selecting brands? She said, “So many offers come my way every time but I am very choosy. That’s why you see I feature in so less ad films. I lick to pick and choose.
I take my own decisions about selecting my brands and don’t consult anyone. I go by my gut feeling. If I zero down on a particular brand, I also do my own little research and if I feel satisfied then I go ahead with it.”
Having been voted the sexiest woman twice, what was her take on it?
“Any woman may feel nice to get compliments but you know what? When I am feeling very low and having a very bad day going on, it feels really nice when I realize that time, that hey I am the sexiest woman around! It makes me cheer up(smiles)” replied the beauty.
Akshay too was recently voted as Asia’s sexiest man, what did Katrina have to say about it? To which she said, “Well I hear everyone saying we both make a wonderful onscreen pair. Basically its fun working alongside him on and off the sets and our comfortablity perhaps reflects onscreen making it look so natural.”
Her recent release Yuvvraaj failed at the box office. Does she think her fans didn’t like her romantic pairing with Salman?
To which she replied with a smirk, “Well may be.”
When asked what her new year plans were and whether would she be performing?
She replied, “I have no plans as of now. But I definately won’t be performing on the New Year’s Eve after what has happened in Mumbai recently. I would also like to take this opportunity to tell all the women of India that they should not panic in situations like this.”

How Deepika became Chinese from Indian

How Deepika became Chinese from Indian

Deepika Padukone has a typical Chinese look in her hyped upcoming movie ‘Chandni Chowk To China’ where she stars opposite Akshay Kumar. Deepika has confessed that in the film releasing January 16, she plays a double role. One that of an Indian, and the other a Chinese girl.
It was extremely difficult to make a sharp featured- big eyed typical Indian beauty look Chinese.
Now what’s interesting is to note how she got that look. In fact it was a well thought about process.
Director Nikhil Advani asked his makeup experts to give Deepika’s eyes the slant look that is sharpened at the edge. They said they wanted to stick tapes around Deepika’s eyes.
This very idea scared the actress and even her doctor advised her to not go for something like that as it would harm her eyes.
Even her doctor suggested otherwise. ‘
It was then that Makeup artist Mallika Bhatt came to the rescue and talked about using the eyeliner in a different manner.
The basic eye makeup- the eyeliner was used in such a way that Deepika got those Chinese tweaked eyes without getting herself into pain.
Apart from achieving the correct look, Mallika also had to undergo four months of rigorous training before the film started.
Well, the babe seems to have worked hard to look real in the movie. Now whether the hard work pays off or not is another story altogether.

The Best of Meryl Streep

The Best of Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep is one of Hollywood’s most versatile, talented and respected actresses who has enjoyed a career that has spanned over thirty years. So it’s hard to believe that she has won just two Oscars, despite fourteen nominations.
So as she is FemaleFirst’s Icon of the Month we have looked back over her long and varied career to pick out some of her best performances.
Sophie’s Choice
Directed by Alan J Pakula and also starring Kevin Kline Sophie’s Choice is widely regarded as one of the best Holocaust movies.
The film follows Stingo, an aspiring young writer who moves to New York just post-WWII to a Brooklyn boarding house where he becomes friends with Nathan Landau (Kevin Kline), a Jewish research chemist and Nathan’s girlfriend, Polish refugee Sophie Zawistowska (Meryl Streep).
Nathan and Sophie’s relationship is clouded by Nathan’s violent behaviour, his uncontrollable jealousy, and Sophie’s unexpressed but troubling memories of her war experience.
Her stories about her life during the war begin to unravel, exposing her as a liar and adding a tone of mystery to the strained relationship between Nathan, Stingo, and herself.
An adaptation of William Styron’s best selling novel the film looks at Sophie’s time in Auschwitz the pain that she suffered and the horror that she witnessed. For her performance Streep won her one and only Oscar for Best Actress.
Kramer vs Kramer
Released in 1979 Robert Benton’s heartbreaking adaptation Kramer Vs Kramer, an Avery Corman novel, about the aftermath of divorce is this week’s must see movie. When dutiful wife and mother Joanna (Meryl Streep) decides to leave Ted (Dustin Hoffman), an advertising executive, she also leaves him with the responsibility of caring for their young son, Billy (Justin Henry). The situation proves to be especially difficult since the workaholic father has never really taken care of the boy and, in truth, barely knows him. Things are rough at first, but as the two become accustomed to life without Joanna and Ted’s caretaking skills improve, father and son finally develop a relationship. As Ted devotes more time to his son and less to his work, however, the latter suffers, and Ted’s subsequent firing coincides with the return of Joanna, who wants her son back. Kramer Vs Kramer is complex story of families and the complicated world of parenthood as Benton explores on whose shoulders the task of raising a child falls.
This film had a major social impact as the roles of mothers and fathers were changing throughout the seventies and the film was praised for showing both sides of the argument to gain custody of the child.
For her performance Streep once again found herself in the Oscar spotlight as she won the best Supporting Actress gong.
The French Lieutenant’s Woman
In 1982 The French Lieutenant’s Woman was another literary adaptation for Streep as she joined with Jeremy Irons as John Fowles’ complex romantic novel made it to the big screen.
Set in 1867, Sarah Woodrough (Meryl Streep), a beautiful young woman, is condemned by society and driven into a deep melancholy because of her tragic affair with a French lieutenant.
Fowles adds depth and texture to the story by including direct historical asides and scientific lessons by Charles Smithson (Jeremy Irons), a wealthy amateur paleontologist and follower of Charles Darwin.
In addition, there is a film within the film in which modern-day (1981) characters Anna (Streep) and Mike (Irons) provide comments on the characters they’re portraying, and a little history, but primarily provide a parallel story as they enter an adulterous affair of their own.
Streep was the only member of the cast to be nominated at the Oscars, but she lost out on Best Actress to Katharine Hepburn for On Golden Pond.
Adaptation
Adaptation is the most recent film from the actress to make this list, and is arguably her best work in recent years.
The film stars Nicolas Cage as both Charlie Kaufman himself and his fictionalised identical twin brother, Donald Kaufman.
While the boisterous Donald freeloads off of his sibling and works on a serial-killer movie script, Charlie is tormented by both his own army of neuroses and his new project, adapting The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean into a screenplay.
As Charlie struggles to shape the nonfiction novel into a film, he begins writing himself into the story of Orlean (Meryl Streep), a sad-eyed journalist, and her subject, renegade Florida flower expert John Laroche (Chris Cooper).
The high profile cast was a hit with the critics as Streep went on to win Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes and was nominated for yet another Oscar.
The Deer Hunter
What is amazing about Streep’s performance in The Deer Hunter is that this is only her second time in a feature film, making her debut in Julia a year earlier.
She landed the role of Linda in Michael Cimino’s epic drama which follows the lives of a group of Russian-American friends from a small Pennsylvania industrial town as they prepare to leave for Vietnam, but when they return from the war, their lives are indelibly changed.
For this role she grabbed the attention of Hollywood as a major talent to be watched receiving her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.
